A lot of people underestimate the importance of participating in Hackathons. Hackathons allow participants to strengthen their soft skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork, among others. Depending on the problem being solved, it also offers an opportunity to sharpen technical skills such as new work methodologies, project management, and courses. This is a unique opportunity provided to the High School Students at Earl Of March to showcase their innovation and skills.

Requirements

The hackathon will have a generic theme to support the different levels of skills at school. This Hackathon is meant to support innovation so think of something creative that can help advance the current practices of the world. We will be judged on 3 main aspects:

  • Innovation (This is where most of the marks will be awarded)
  • Design
  • Complexity
  • Presentation

As to what to submit, we encourage participants to steer towards a goal of creating something that will help society, specifically the education and personal management sectors. But participants have the option to make whatever they want as long as it is beneficial. Here are some ideas:

  • Personal Manager (A manager that will help with keeping track of important dates and help maintain a productive schedule)
  • A Math website that generates random questions along with answers from chosen topics
  • A program that makes everyday tasks easier

Anything classified as innovation will be weighted more heavily than something like a non-educational game.

Participants are encouraged to submit a video demonstration of their project to best showcase what they have achieved and accomplished. But submitting a link or repository where the code can show the final product is mandatory.
